The Great Lakes Research Facility is located in a former ceramic tile manufacturing plant on the shore of Lake Michigan. The project included renovation of 4000 sf of existing warehouse space into three wet laboratories, three laboratory offices and support spaces.
The design of the laboratories is adaptable and layout of the planning module allows for the addition of future laboratories in a consistent manner along the north exterior wall of the existing warehouse space. The laboratory design is based on shared infrastructure and room configurations to maximize equipment and services utilization. Windows were added to provide north light and a connection to Lake Michigan.
The project scope also included design and construction of a new 2,150 square foot mechanical mezzanine in anticipation of the mechanical equipment needs of a future $37,000,000 building addition.
